Historic Pier 70 Redevelopment

Orton Development, in conjunction with the Port of San Francisco, developed the 20th Street historical buildings within Pier 70 in San Francisco. Historically, this site was one of the main shipbuilding centers on the west coast and was home to the Union Iron Works headquarters along with Bethlehem Steel. Today Pier 70 is rundown and overlooked. Restoration and redevelopment of these buildings reimagines the most intact industrial complex west of the Mississippi, into a vibrant part of the waterfront, which provides opportunities for office, commercial, manufacturing, and artist space.

Sherwood led the civil design for this project and was responsible for reimagining the urban rainwater conveyance systems. Our team incorporated functional visual ecology and increased place-making opportunities, while also reducing the amount of rainwater flowing into the already inundated storm sewer system.
