Project: Loreto Bay

Loreto Bay

Location: Baja California Sur, Mexico

Loreto Bay is one of the world’s largest sustainable development community projects and was one of the first to implement comprehensive triple bottom line thinking across all aspects of the development. The Loreto Bay Foundation is the development’s sister non-profit organization created to uphold the three pillars of cultural, environmental, and economic sustainability in the development and adjacent communities. The planned Villages that complete Loreto Bay include homes, hotels, recreational facilities, and an active cultural town center; as well as a nature preserve, estuary, and organic farms. Sherwood worked with the Foundation to create Sustainable Coastal Development Standards for the entire region of Baja California Sur, Mexico. By ensuring that development guidelines take into account the social, economic, and environmental concerns of the local population, Sherwood is furthering the ideals of truly green community design.
