The Hicks Mountain Ranch, encompassing 800-acres of land in Nicasio, California, is the site of an innovative agricultural center and residential complex. Over 750-acres of the site will be devoted to private conservation and agricultural land, while the remaining development will be both carbon-neutral and have a net-zero energy use. The first phase 3,500 sf family complex was designed to meet or exceed LEED For Homes standards and to be completely energy independent; while the on-site food farm and agricultural center will support the home’s domestic needs. Sherwood developed a water resource management plan to serve agriculture, fire, landscape, and domestic use in an area that has limited groundwater by utilizing alternative water resources such as rainwater and graywater.
